With all the
character of its citizens, it is easy to see why Wilmington is swimming
with so many clubs and organizations. All residents in all age groups
can find their niche
in the community by participating in the many events and classes
that these organizations create. Covering everything from athletics
to the arts to the just plain sociable, citizens are provided with
an outlet for nearly every passion, while celebrating in the community
of Wilmington and encouraging and basking in the fellowship that
inevitably burns from the fuels created by these organizations.
Religious faith
has always been an important aspect of the Cape Fear region's identity.
Many settlers were known to have migrated
to this area in the 1700's century in part for the purposes of declaring
their religious freedom. The founding fathers of the Wilmington
region created many spiritual homes, accomodating a broad cultural
spectrum, and they eventually built stunning architectural tributes
to their faiths, some of which still stand today. In the process,
these
citizens also created a tolerating religious environment, carefully
building a system which preserved each other's right to observe
their beliefs. The modern day Cape Fear region offers great diversity
in places and methods of worship in more than 200 churches. One
cannot view the skyline along the Cape Fear river adjacent to historic
downtown Wilmington without being instantly struck by the presence
of grand steeples. Whatever your choice of faith, Wilmington holds
you to itself and holds you to your religion, respecting it and
allow you absolute freedom to worship in your own right.
